We all know the feeling, every time we shift
into reverse-- "am I about to hit something?!". You can fit
a and entire compact car, or simply a parking post, in the
blind-spot of
a full-size SUV or van. So the idea is simple: use well
understood sonar technology to detect objects behind your
vehicle. The beeper sounds when there is an object, and the
beeps get closer together when you get closer to the
obstacle. This lets you know when you are approaching
another car when you are parallel parking. Or, it lets you
know there might be something behind you were not
expecting.
The BackTracker is manufactured in Malaysia by our strategic partner, Xenso. In Malaysia, with many narrow and crowded streets and the parking problems associated with them, 85 percent of all vehicles have parking sensors. Xenso supplies parking sensors to the Malaysian aftermarket, but more importantly to new car ("Original Equipment") makers in Malaysia and other markets.
Why does "Original Equipment" matter? There are no particular quality standards a product has to pass to sell into the US aftermarket. It is up to the manufacturer to make the trade-offs between quality and reliability, and price. But to qualify for inclusion in original equipment programs, the BackTracker had to undergo extensive testing. This includes life, environment, electromagnetic compatibility, and rigorous ongoing quality controls. What this means to you is years of trouble-free service.
Because Xenso makes so many parking sensors (they manufacture over a thousand every day!) they are able to produce them economically. And, because of our strategic partnership with Xenso, we import them to the US at a very low cost as well. The bottom line is that BackTracker costs only a modest amount more than the least expensive systems on the market, but with comes with a quality that makes it right at home on your brand-new $60,000 vehicle.
When high-end European luxury cars first came out with third-generation, asymmetric sensing technology, Xenso quickly adapted that technology for the Malaysian automakers. But lest we give the impression that Xenso is just following the very best, let us point out one their own key innovations: Xenso was the first to develop zero "quiet zone" technology. To this day, many ultrasonic parking sensors are not capable of detecting an object just inches away!
We are proud to be associated with Xenso, and proud to bring you the best value in parking sensors.
